About 10 years ago, when I retired as an Agricultural Auctioneer and Valuer, I needed a hobby and having for sometime been a volunteer driver for Mount Edgcumbe Hospice, thought I could do more good using my stable as a workshop, so I set to making bird tables and nest boxes.
We can help the birds no end by making a good supply of food available all through the winter and that is where I come in with an effective and attractive bird table which will not only help the birds, but also Cornwall Hospice Care to continue to function to full capacity in the wonderful work it does.
The whole of the proceeds from the sale of both bird tables and nesting boxes and recently bat boxes goes to the Cornwall Hospice Care. I would not be able to continue without the support of the Parkway Timber Company based near Bodmin Parkway railway station who supply all the timber offcuts I use, free of charge.
Our Hospices at Mount Edgcume and St. Julia’s are suffering severely from the credit crunch and we must try to help as much as possible in the wonderful service that they provide.
Nest boxes can be put in position as early as you like and it is surprising how many birds take up residence during the winter months. I try to maintain a stock of bird tables, nest boxes and robin boxes and these are on display at Mount Edgcumbe at St. Austell and St. Julia’s at Hayle and of course here at my home in Nanstallon. Bird tables are £60 and nest boxes £12.
